"A self-taught pastry chef, who has proved her mettle on reality shows such as Cake Wars and Last Cake Standing, [Kaysie] Lackey was named one of Martha Stewart’s top 63 pastry professionals in 2014. In 2015, she made it to Dessert Professional magazine’s Top 10 Cake Decorators in North America.
But allude to her celebrity status and Lackey laughs it off with “I am cake-famous...only cake nerds know me”. Nonetheless, it’s truly surprising that Lackey never attended culinary school. Other than a handful of basic baking classes, the 36-year-old went through dozens of recipes and picked up her skills through trial and error. “There were no YouTube videos or online tutorials back when I started out (about 10 years ago) so you just had to just figure it out yourself.”

"Sugar Shapers are probably the hottest tool to hit caking since Cake Lace, and just as versatile.
They can do anything basically. I have used them for modelling chocolate, fondant, gumpaste, and Buttercream, and I cannot fault them in any medium.
There are 4 different sets, soft and firm, in both regular and mini, and I have all of them. I have found a use for every size and firmness, so depending on what you need them for, every set is worth getting."

"Sugar Shapers give you a lot of control when using them to shape or add detail; it is easy to accurately achieve the effect you are aiming for – especially if you have both sets.
Made of a flexible but durable, food grade TPE, the Sugar Shapers sit comfortably in your hand as you work with them and allow you to be efficient with your sculpting. When creating this little model of a lion’s head, we used several of the tools, some soft, some firm. We found it almost instinctive to know which to use when, but when unsure of the most suitable for a specific task, practising on a spare bit of fondant soon gave us the answer.
Sugar Shapers are a great addition to a cake decorator’s toolkit as they are a pleasure to work with. Once you’ve got some, you’ll wonder how you ever did without them!"

"For crafting chocolate and fondant icing, which has the texture of Play-Doh and is often used for special occasion cakes. Ms. Lackey brings multiples of a plastic sugar-shaping tool she designed herself." Read the full article here.

"After trying the Innovative Sugarworks products, I'm very pleased with all of them. The soft tip Sugar Shapers are great for frilled edges and ribbons, and for light, delicate sculpting, while the firm tip Sugar Shapers work well on thicker pieces, impressions and for sculpting in fondant, 50/50, and gumpaste.
The Turntable Expander is now a must in my kitchen. It is great for large cakes to give a more stable work surface and small cakes, to have room to rest your hands for intricate, delicate work, such as painting or string work. And the Cake Porter, with its insulated cover, is ideal for transporting lighter weight cakes-it makes delivery simpler, collapses for storage and is easy to clean. You can tell that the team behind Innovative Sugarworks knew and understood the challenges of working cake decorators, and created a highly useful set of tools to make our lives easier."

"Allison, former lead decorator at Kaysie Lackey’s shop The People’s Cakes, grew so frustrated with the inefficient tools that she decided to develop her own. With Lackey and her staff as willing guinea pigs, Allison and her husband spent the past 18 months developing a set of professional grade culinary sculpting tools called Sugar Shapers™ as well as a turntable extender and a lightweight, collapsible cake storage and delivery carton, the Cake Porter™, that can be ordered with a fitted, insulated cover."
