Originally from Seattle, Chris Allison longed to leave the corporate world for a more personally fulfilling career after watching his good friend and former New York City roommate, Paul Krug, successfully launch Glaze Teriyaki Grill. After working in commercial real estate acquisitions and finance, he eventually found his niche alongside co-founder and spouse, Meghan Allison, as they established Innovative Sugarworks in 2013.
After a double date initiated through a mutual friend, Chris knew he had met his future wife over tacos and guacamole in 2011. Combined with Meghan’s extensive background in pastry arts, together they sought to optimize the experience, process, and outcome for cake artists by creating high-quality, professional-grade culinary tools with both form and function in mind. Chris was a History major at the University of Virginia and enjoyed continuing education at the London School of Economics and NYU so his work experience and studies helped him to identify and respond to inefficiencies within the pastry business when developing the Sugarworks™ line. His inspiration for the company emerged after witnessing Meghan struggle to manipulate pastry arts with tools that were neither food safe nor custom made for use – both which are core values of the Sugarworks™ brand. His philosophy is that “one learns by doing”, and so he has assembled a hands on creative team to help realize the vision for Innovative Sugarworks.
Innovative Sugarworks is dedicated to being the leading innovator, developer, and provider of professional-grade, ergonomic, and responsibly made culinary tools inspired and designed specifically for the Sugar Arts.
